Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura, in his divine wisdom, didst conceive a most noble design: to establish throughout the sacred land of Bharata a total of one hundred and eight Chaitanya Pada-pithas—holy sites marked by the footprints of Lord Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu—at those hallowed places where the Lord Himself had set foot, that the loving message of Sri Gauranga might be broadcast far and wide and ever remembered by the faithful. Yet, ere the completion of this grand undertaking, the venerable Acharya did accomplish the installation of but eight such Pada-pithas, five thereof during his sojourn in South India in the years 1930 and 1931, before he did depart from this mortal realm and enter into the eternal pastimes of the Divine Couple, Sri Sri Radha and Krishna.
