Sri Chaitanya Math

Chandrasekhara Acharya Bhavan:

Sri Chandrasekhara Acharya was Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu’s maternal uncle. He was known as Acaryaratna. Chandrasekhara Acharya’s house is known as Vrajapattana. It was in this place that Sriman Mahaprabhu spent seven days in the mood of Laksmi enacting pastimes and dancing.

Srila Prabhupada took Tridanda Sannyasa and established Sri Chaitanya Math here on 27th March 1918. Srila Prabhupada stayed here, giving up all bad associations and showed the example of practicing Krsna Bhajana being free of deceit. This is the original temple of Sri Chaitanya Math.

Speciality of 29 Domes of the Temple:

Thereafter, with the financial support of Sripad Madanamohana Dasa Adhikari Bhaktisudhakara, a beautiful temple with 29 domes was constructed in 1926. This is the main center that preaches Chaitanya’s teachings around the world. The Gaudiya Math was first established from here.

The four corners of this temple house the deities of the four main Vaisnava acharyas, namely Sri Sampradaya’s Sripada Ramanuja (Visistadvaita-vada philosopher), Brahma Sampradaya’s Sripada Madhvacarya (Dvaita-vada philosopher), Rudra Sampradaya’s Sripada Visnusvami (Suddhadvaita-vada philosopher), and Sanaka Sampradaya’s Sripada Nimbarkacarya (Dvaitadvaita-vada philosopher).

Sriman Mahaprabhu and Sri Vinoda-prana-jiu are the centers of the temple. The victory flag of the main dome of the temple signifies the Acintya-Bheda-Abheda philosophy; the Sudarsana Cakra at the main dome is the protector of the Rupanuga philosophy.

Sri Radha-Kunda:

Madhupuri Sridham Mayapura’s Yogapitha is superior to Vaikuntha. Sri Gaura-Lila Rasa-Sthali, namely Srivasa-Angana, is superior to the Yogapitha. Sri Chaitanya Math, which is non-different from Govardhan, is superior to Srivasa-Angana.

Sri Radha-Kunda Vraja-Pattana is superior to that. Om Visnupada Sri Srimad Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Goswami  Prabhupada set the example of keeping away from all bad associations and preached the supreme message of Krsna-seva that is free from deceit.

Avidya-Harana Sravana-Sadana – Natya Mandir:

The huge Natya-Mandir is situated in front of the Sri Mandir. Srila Prabhupada named this Natya-Mandir as “Avidya-Harana Sravana-Sadan” – the place for listening to talks that will remove ignorance. This is an extremely important part of Sri Chaitanya Math.

This is the place where the incarnation of the Sri Sri Guru Gauranga Gandharvika Giridhari in the form of sound (name and discourses) are present to deliver the jivas from their state of ignorance, which has existed since time immemorial.

Srila Gaur kisor Das Babaji’s Samadhi Mandir:

Srila Prabhupada’s Gurudeva, Nityalila Pravista Om Visnupada Paramahamsa Srila Gaurakisora Dasa Babaji Maharaja, disappeared on 17th November 1915. Srila Prabhupada made his samadhi according to the sastras at Kuliya Cara in Nabadwip.

When that place was being submerged by the Ganga, Srila Prabhupada along with his disciples reopened the samadhi and brought the remnants to Sri Chaitanya Math on the banks of Sri Radha Kunda on 21st August 1932. There, he built a beautiful temple and established the deity of Babaji Maharaja. He arranged for the service at this place.

Dainik Nadiya Prakash Jantralaya :

Srila Prabhupada first began the distribution of the Nadia Prakash Patrika(daily news paper) from Sri Chaitanya Math on 19th August 1926. He established the “Dainik Nadiya Prakash” herein for the daily publication of the magazine. The rare scriptures of the previous acharyas, were published with the help of a manually operated printing press.

Para-Vidya-Peeth, also known as Sarasvati-tirtha:

This was an exemplary institute wherein the teachings of Sriman Mahaprabhu, written in the books of the Goswamis and the previous acharyas, were studied and practiced. Srila Prabhupada established this Para-Vidya-Peetha in 1927 at Sri Chaitanya Math.

Sri Bhaktivijaya Bhavan:

This is a two-story building at the western entrance of Sri Chaitanya Math. Srila Prabhupada used to stay here. Srila Prabhupada’s Bhajana room with the furniture and papers, etc. used by him are still present there. Srila Prabhupada’s disciple, Sri Sakhicarana Raya Bhaktivijaya Prabhu constructed this building as a residence for Srila Prabhupada.

Srila Prabhupada’s Samadhi Mandir:

This temple is an architectural beauty showcasing skillful artwork, located in front of Sri Bhakti Vijaya Bhavana near the flower garden. Srila Prabhupada disappeared at Kolkata’s Bag Bazar Sri Gaudiya Math. Thereafter, his body was taken to Sri Chaitanya Math wherein his body was put into Samadhi in accordance with the sastras at this place where the Samadhi temple is situated.

Important verses from the Srimad Bhagavatam, Sri Chaitanya Charitamrta, and other importance are embossed on the walls and pillars of the temple. This temple was constructed in 1946 under the management of Srila Prabhupada’s dear disciple, Srimad Bhakti Vilasa Tirtha Goswami Maharaja.
