Pranam Mantra Madhava Tirtha:
Sadhitakhila sat tattvam vadhitakhila durmatam
Vodhitakhila sanmargam Madhavakhya yatim Bhaje
It is thought that he appeared around 1259 AD. He was formerly known as Vishnu Shastri. He was one of the direct disciples of Madhvacharya. After Madhvacharya’s disappearance, Madhava Tirtha became the third Acharya and served his Sampradaya.
Madhava Tirtha established a Math:
Madhava Tirtha established the Majjigi Halli Math near Mulbagal in Karnataka. He entrusted his disciple Madhurai Tirtha with the task of overseeing it. The Vira Rama deity of Madhava Tirtha was worshiped at Majjigi Halli Mutt. He also established the Kamba Math.
Miracles in the Life of Madhav Tirtha:
Once, Madhava Tirtha worshiped the deity of “Digvijaya Rama”. The deity was given to Narahari Tirtha by Madhvacharya. An unprecedented incident happened. Suddenly, he moved from his seat and sat down as if he was offering dandavat obeisances to a superior person. Everyone was watching his strange behavior. When the puja was over, he very humbly accepted Charanamrita from the invisible person. He explained the incident later to satisfy the curiosity of the visitors. He said, “My predecessor from whom I received this deity, appeared before me. After worshiping the deity, he took the Charanmrita himself and offered me Charanmrita too”. Everyone was amazed to see this unprecedented event.
With the blessings of Madhva Tirtha, a shepherd became king:
Madhava Tirtha used to live in the mountains of Karnataka as an ascetic. He once saw a shepherd named Buka repeatedly visiting his place. The poor shepherd heard that the famous monk Madhava Tirtha was living there and meditating for Lord Narayana. So he kept some fruits there every day. Madhva Tirtha blessed him and said, “One day you will be king”. After listening to this boon, the local shepherds appointed him as their chief. He later became the local king, ruling over five ethnic groups – Kanada, Talig, Kangavro, Negapatto, and Badagasde. He came to be known as Buka Rao in this state and ruled for about 37 years with the blessings of Ma Dhav Tirtha.
Madhava Tirtha becomes the Acharya:
In 1333 AD Madhava Tirtha took charge of the Math. He was the head of the Vedanta Peetha until he died in 1350 AD. He composed many books. Among them, Parashara Madhvavijaya’s commentary on Parashara Smriti is famous.
Matha founded by Madhava Tirtha:
Madhava Tirtha established the Majjigi Halli Math near Mulbagal in Karnataka. He entrusted his disciple Madhurai Tirtha with the task of overseeing it. The Vira Rama deity of Madhava Tirtha was worshiped at Majjigi Halli Mutt. This great personality passed away on the Mahalaya Amavasya Tithi in Ashwina. He was buried in Hampi. Later, the samadhi was shifted to Manur in Bijapur on the bank of Bhima. Currently, his pushpa samadhi has been found in Mulbagal.
