During the time of Srila Prabhupada’s vow to chant one billion holy names, out of separation from His Divine Grace Srila Gaurakishore Das Babaji Maharaj and from His Divine Grace Srila Bhaktivinode Thakur Mahashaya, he had a vision of the six Goswami’s, Gaurakishore Das Babaji, Bhaktivinode Thakur, and the Panca-tattva. A conversation took place where they said that Bimala Prasad (previous name Srila Prabhupada) should spread the loving mission of Lord Caitanya. At that time, Bimala Prasad told them that he had no manpower. Altogether, they said that they would send the manpower. One of the people sent by them was a spiritual descendant of Lord Caitanya who would later be known as Srila Bhakti Bhudeva Shrauti Goswami Maharaj.
” Bimala Prasad should spread the loving mission of Lord Caitanya “
Gaurkishore das Babaji Maharaj
On Monday 2nd February 1894 (21st day of the month of Magh during the fifth day of the waxing moon cycle), Ram Gopala appeared as the eldest son of Sri Ramsundar Chattopadhyay and Saraswati Devi in Chhatna, Bankura, West Bengal, India. In order to help Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur Prabhupada, Ram Gopal at the age of 35 on Friday, 20th April 1928 (7th Baishak 1335) arrived at Sri Caitanya Math in Mayapur. In a short time, Srila Prabhupada gave him harinam and Diksha (1st and 2nd initiation). His service attitude for Caitanya Mahaprabhu’s mission was very attractive. Therefore, after two years on Tuesday 23rd September 1930 (7th Ashwin 1337), Srila Prabhupada gave him sannyasa initiation and the name Bhakti Bhudeva Shrauti Goswami Maharaja. He was the sixth sannyasi of Srila Prabhupada. After sannyasa, Srila Prabhupada sent him to preach around India to spread the loving message of Lord Caitanya. Seeing his skills in every area of spiritual practice, Srila Prabhupada appointed him as the assistant editor of the Dainik Nadia Prakash in the Bengali language. Srila Prabhupada also made him the publisher of the Hindi and Odia language Bhagavat Patrika magazine. Srila Shrauti Goswami Maharaj was proficient in Hindi, Odia, Bangla, Sanskrit, and English. In 1932, Srila Prabhupada appointed him to establish a temple in Varanasi, Allahabad (Prayagraj), and in Gaya. By nature, Srila Shrauti Goswami Maharaj was always engaged in one service after another all over India. Therefore, most devotees used to say that he was an incarnation of Narada. Srila Shrauti Goswami Maharaj established temples in Jhadagram, Tata Nagar, Bolpur, and Birbhum. One year after Srila Prabhupada’s physical departure from this world, Srila Shrauti Goswami Maharaj physically departed from the material world on Thursday, 13th January 1938 on the auspicious Dvadashi day (29th Poush). His exemplary service attitude is our inspiration to continue our service.
