About Shri Purushottama Tirtha:

Sripada Purushottama Tirtha was the 10th descendant and Acharya in the line of Madhvacharya. He held the post of Acharya from 1400 to 1416 AD. His former name was Srinivasa Acharya. He was one of the most senior disciples of his Guru Jaydharma Tirtha.

Travel to the South India:

He went to the ancient temple of Sri Ramaprameya Swami in Channapatnam in the south direction, as per his Gurudeva’s orders. This temple was established by the ancient rishis. From that time, daily worship has been going on in this temple. This place was also known as Jnanamandapa. Sri Purushottam Tirtha came to this place and established a temple of Lord Nrsimhadeva in a secluded place on the banks of the River Kanva. In ancient times, the Ashrama of Sage Kanva was situated at this very spot. Here, he performed austerity. At this place, he continued to worship Nrsimhadeva and perform his own devotional services.

Daily routine of Sri Purushottama Tirtha:

Sri Purushottama Tirtha never went to the locality for alms. Rather, he used to meditate in a cave by worshipping Lord Nrisimhadeva daily. He practiced the commentary of Madhvacharya’s Brahmasutra. In the early morning, he used to come to worship the Lord. This cave is known as Purushottam Cave. This was his routine.

Wisdom of Purushottama Tirtha:

Sri Purushottama Tirtha had great knowledge of the Shastras. That is why he was called the “Shastra Kovida”. There was no one equal to him in scriptural knowledge at that time.

Disappearance of Purushottama Tirtha:

Purushottama Tirtha ordained his disciple Narasimha and gave him the name Brahmanya Tirtha. He anointed him as the Acharya of the Sampradaya and went into the cave to perform constant penance. There he disappeared miraculously. For this reason, he had no samadhi.
